This is an example of a French language activity in the Duolingo microlearning environment.

2/5 - While the screencast shows what this software is capable of doing, the lack of voiceover or narrator brings down the rating for me. I think it would be more effective if a narrator was explaining what was happening or several screencasts were spliced together to show different activities or levels of the software.

3/5 – This session is a good example of how the software can take over the task of rote learning for a teacher. The software tells the learner how to pronounce the word in French that they can repeat if necessary. If this is all the software is designed to do then it is successful however, this is just one, basic step in learning a new language. This type of learning will not increase a learner’s confidence in actually having a conversation in French. The demonstration also did not show us how the software responds if the learner made an error in their answer. Had this been demonstrated we would have a better understanding of the software.

This video does not what so ever qualifies as a microlearning experience. I learned nothing besides the user being 1% more fluent in French. There was no introduction, no focus, and no prompts audio, video or text based suggesting the objective of the video. I commend the authors on sharing such an absurd example of what NOT to do when making a microlearing video.

This video didn't seem like a microlearning lesson to me. It seemed more like a video of someone just demonstrating what they did for a duolingo lesson. If it was a video to demonstrate what users can do in duolingo, it seem lacking as it didn't have any explanation about how to use the program at all. I give it a 2 out of 5.

This video is very simple demo of how duolingo UI works. It does not have any intro and I have not learned anything but shown me how the application UI looks like.

1/5: I have to agree with many comments here. I do not think this was a good example of micro-learning. It did nothing to set up the topic, we had to intuit it from the actions on the screen.

I would rate this 1/5. I agree with the comments above, this did not really feel like Microlearning to me but a demo of what Duolingo can do. You are essentially watching someone else complete an activity which does not allow you to learn anything from it. I do generally think a screen cast can be Mircolearning if it has a specific topic, objective, and narration to take you through a process.

1/5: I suspect this video is an example by our Opportunity Forecast hosts this week on what poor e-learning video is as I see Josh's name in the corner there ;)
