Why video?
With over 280,000,000 'how-to' clips on Youtube, video remains one of the most popular ways of presenting microlearning lessons. However, not all video lessons are created equal. In this exercise, you will evaluate 5 videos and with an eye for which apply the principles of microlearning and are an enjoyable experience.
According to John Eades (2015) of eLearning Industry, there are three factors that make video the medium of choice for on-the-job microlearning. First, video (especially YouTube) is a platform that aligns with the key employee demographic (Eade, 2015). Second, the combination of aural and visual instruction that video allows for a multimodal learning experience that improves retention (Eade, 2015). Lastly, because the production of microlearning videos no longer requires experts to produce, video can be highly customized and very affordable (Eade, 2015). Below is a short clip illustrate the last point - Eade demonstrates the creation of a 1 minute video that highlights the ease of producing microlearning videos.
